Message from the Commandant

I feel privileged and highly honored to be the part of the Armed Police Force, Nepal Disaster Management Training School, which has been producing skilled, courageous and efficient human resource for carrying out human rescue and providing humanitarian assistance during various kind of disaster since its establishment with prime motto of "Service Security Rescue".

According to the Long-Term Climate Risk Index (1999-2018), Nepal ranks ninth with regards to climate vulnerability. It ranks 11th in terms of global risk of earthquake occurrence and in top 20 of all the multi-hazard countries in the world. Due to complex geography, diverse topography, highly varying climate along with haphazard infrastructural development, lack of awareness and sufficient preparedness, Nepal has been facing various natural as well as human induced hazards. Landslide, flood, fires (forest, industrial and fires in the urban and rural areas) affects the nation annually. Apart from that the country is vulnerable for disasters like earthquake, avalanches, Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GOLF), extreme drought, epidemic and other hazards too. A combination of these hazards creates a grave threat to human lives, national economy and development of the country.

Preparedness is the main way of reducing the impact of disasters and other hazards. Since the disaster management and humanitarian assistance in possible or during disaster is one of the mandatory responsibility of the Armed Police Force, Nepal , the organization emphasizes on well trained human resource internally, awareness programs to people of society and community level as well. The training school focuses to provide necessary training and produce updated and competent rescuers to deal with all humanitarian aspects of emergencies.

For achieving the goal of this training school, I will definitely go ahead with full honesty and dedication with team sprit ensuring the prospective of the team-work by making long term, short term and instant plans and strategies. I also expect the well coordination and cooperation from all related institutions and stakeholders.
